CPM
Cost per 1,000 impressions. Meta usually charges by impressions unless you pick another billing option when you create the ad.
Facebook ads have no price list: you set a budget, and Meta charges you for the impressions your ad wins in an auction. In the United States, Facebook lead campaigns average $1.80 per click and $27.39 per lead (LocaliQ, September 2026). A local business that wants Meta's system to learn needs about 50 results a week from one ad set, which at that average is roughly $1,370 a week.

01 — The short answer
Facebook ads cost whatever budget you set, and you can start at a few dollars a day. What that money buys depends on your industry and your campaign objective: across U.S. industries, a traffic click averages $0.60 and a lead-campaign click $1.80, while a lead ranges from $13.74 in real estate to $61.56 for dentists (LocaliQ, updated 23 September 2026).
So the useful question is not "what does Facebook charge?" It is "how much do I need to spend for Meta to find me customers, and what will each customer cost?" The rest of this page answers that, with Meta's own billing rules and 2026 benchmarks.
Cost per 1,000 impressions. Meta usually charges by impressions unless you pick another billing option when you create the ad.
Cost per click: amount spent divided by clicks. A cheaper click is not a cheaper customer.
Amount spent divided by form fills, calls or messages. It says nothing about which leads paid you.
The goal you choose first in Ads Manager (Traffic, Leads, Sales and others). It decides what Meta tries to get, and so what you pay for each result.
The period after launch or a significant edit when Meta is still testing who sees your ad. It usually ends after about 50 results in a week.
The amount of spend at which Meta charges your card automatically, before your monthly bill date.
02 — How Meta bills you
Up to 75% more than your daily budget on a single day, but never more than 7 times it in a calendar week, Sunday to Saturday (Meta Business Help Center, October 2026). A $100 daily budget can spend $175 on a good day, and at most $700 that week.
| Daily budget | Most on one day | Most in one week | About a month (×30.4) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $17.50 | $70 | $304 |
| $20 | $35 | $140 | $608 |
| $50 | $87.50 | $350 | $1,520 |
| $100 | $175 | $700 | $3,040 |
| $200 | $350 | $1,400 | $6,080 |
Source: Meta Business Help Center, About daily budgets, retrieved 19 October 2026. With ad set budget sharing on, Meta can move up to 20% more between ad sets (up to 210% of the daily budget on one day, $840 a week on $100). Monthly column is our arithmetic.
Three billing facts surprise owners most:
03 — Budget by industry
Enough for one ad set to get about 50 results a week, because that is when Meta says an ad set usually leaves the learning phase. Multiply your industry's cost per lead by 50: for home improvement businesses that is about $2,150 a week, or $9,330 a month, at LocaliQ's September 2026 average of $42.95 per lead.
| Industry | Lead click | Form rate | Cost per lead | 50 leads a week | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dentists | $5.70 | 6.07% | $61.56 | $3,078 | $13,374 |
| Beauty & personal care | $2.97 | 5.63% | $50.91 | $2,546 | $11,061 |
| Home & home improvement | $2.18 | 5.32% | $42.95 | $2,148 | $9,331 |
| Personal services | $1.62 | 6.61% | $38.09 | $1,905 | $8,275 |
| Automotive (for sale) | $2.01 | 4.15% | $35.52 | $1,776 | $7,717 |
| Physicians & surgeons | $1.68 | 6.41% | $32.14 | $1,607 | $6,983 |
| Health & fitness | $1.84 | 7.98% | $27.11 | $1,356 | $5,890 |
| Real estate | $1.27 | 9.95% | $13.74 | $687 | $2,985 |
| All industries | $1.80 | 8.54% | $27.39 | $1,370 | $5,951 |
Click, form rate and cost per lead: LocaliQ (WordStream), Facebook Advertising Benchmarks for 2026, lead campaigns, last updated 23 September 2026; the report does not publish sample size or date range. The last two columns are our arithmetic (50 × cost per lead; × 4.345 weeks a month). Learning-phase rule: Meta Business Help Center, About the learning phase, retrieved 19 October 2026.
Can't afford 50 a week? You can still run Facebook ads; you just plan for it. Meta's advice for small budgets is fewer ad sets, not more, because "by combining similar ad sets, you also combine learnings." Expect the Delivery column to read "Learning limited" and the cost per result to move around more. Spreading $1,500 a month across five audiences gives Meta five small samples instead of one usable one.
04 — The number that matters
Cost per customer is your cost per lead divided by the share of leads you close. A $42.95 home improvement lead that closes one time in five costs $214.75 per customer; the same lead closing one in ten costs $429.50. Your close rate moves the real cost of Facebook ads as much as Meta's auction does.
| Step | Question | Worked example (made-up remodeler) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Customers | How many new jobs do you want a month? | 10 jobs |
| 2. Close rate | Of 10 leads, how many usually hire you? | 2 of 10 (20%), from your own records |
| 3. Leads needed | Jobs ÷ close rate | 10 ÷ 0.20 = 50 leads a month |
| 4. Ad spend | Leads × cost per lead | 50 × $42.95 = $2,148 a month |
| 5. Reality check | Leads a week vs. the 50 Meta needs to learn | About 12 a week: one ad set, one offer, no splitting |
Cost per lead: LocaliQ, September 2026, home and home improvement. The close rate is an assumption for the example; use yours.
Then compare cost per customer with what one customer is worth to you. A $214.75 customer is cheap for a $12,000 kitchen and expensive for a $150 gutter cleaning. That comparison, not the click price, tells you whether Facebook ads are worth it for your business.
05 — Objective
Because Meta shows a Traffic campaign to people likely to click, and a Leads campaign to people likely to fill a form, and the second group costs more to reach. Across U.S. industries, a traffic click averages $0.60 and a lead-campaign click $1.80 (LocaliQ, September 2026), yet only the lead campaign is built to bring back a name and phone number.
The cheaper click is often the expensive choice. A local service business with no online checkout that picks Sales is asking Meta to find purchases that never happen on its site. Pick the objective whose event your business can produce about 50 times a week, starting with leads for most service businesses. This Eloari video walks through that choice and the weekly math.

06 — Timing
Expect a more crowded auction. Meta's advertising revenue rose from $50.08 billion in the third quarter of 2025 to $58.1 billion in the fourth, about 16% more money chasing the same users. Meta's average price per ad also keeps rising year over year: up 12% in the second quarter of 2026 (Meta, July 2026).
| Quarter | Average price per ad, vs. a year earlier | Ad impressions, vs. a year earlier |
|---|---|---|
| Q3 2025 | +10% | +14% |
| Q4 2025 | +6% | +18% |
| Q2 2026 | +12% | +14% |
Sources: Meta Platforms 10-Q for Q3 2025, Q4 2025 results and Q2 2026 results (29 July 2026). These are Meta-wide figures across all its apps and countries, not a U.S. CPM.
For a local service business, that means two things. Judge October to December results against the same months last year, not against spring. And if your busy season is not the holidays, avoid launching new tests in late November and December, when the auction is most crowded, and save them for January.
07 — Boost or Ads Manager
Whatever daily budget you pick, with the same auction and the same billing as any other Meta ad. A boost reuses the image and text of an existing post and offers fewer settings than Ads Manager. Boosting inside the Facebook iPhone or iPad app can add Apple's 30% service fee on top (Meta Business Help Center, October 2026).
| Your goal | What fits | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| More people see a post or event | Boost, from a computer | Fine for reach. Do not expect leads. |
| Calls, forms or booked visits | Ads Manager, Leads objective, tracked | Use Ads Manager. |
| Online sales with a checkout | Ads Manager, Sales objective, Pixel and Conversions API | Use Ads Manager. |
| Testing whether anyone cares | One ad set, one offer, two to three ads | Small, but in Ads Manager. |
08 — What other guides skip
About 2,900 Americans a month search "how much do Facebook ads cost" (Google Keyword Planner, 19 October 2026). The guides that rank for it list average clicks and CPMs, but in a read of two of them on 19 October 2026, neither explained how Meta bills a daily budget or what a customer costs after your close rate.
| Guide (last updated) | Data used | Not covered |
|---|---|---|
| HawkSEM (6 August 2026) | Bïrch, June 2026; gives CPM as "about $11" and "nearly $16" | 75% daily flexibility, payment threshold, learning-phase budget, boost, cost per customer |
| AdMakeAI (6 June 2026) | WordStream 2025 ($27.66 per lead), third-party CPMs | 75% daily flexibility, payment threshold, boost, close rate |

Comparing with search ads? Google leads cost more but come from people already looking: LocaliQ's 2026 search benchmark puts the average Google lead at $66.69. See how much Google Ads costs and Google Ads vs Facebook Ads before you split a budget.
09 — Management fee
Eloari charges a flat monthly fee from $900, never a percentage of ad spend, with no setup fee and month-to-month terms. Your ad spend goes directly from you to Meta, with no markup. Judge any fee against your total budget: at $5,000 of ad spend a $900 fee is 15% of what you put to work; at $2,000 it is 31%.
| Tier | Monthly ad spend | Flat fee | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Under $5,000 | $900/mo | Google or Meta, tracking, ad copy, monthly report |
| Growth | $5,000 – $20,000 | $1,500/mo | Google or Meta, call tracking, landing page testing, biweekly review |
| Full | $20,000+ | $2,500/mo | Google and Meta, full tracking stack, landing page testing, weekly review |
Eloari fits best when you spend $2,000 or more a month on ads and one customer is worth several hundred dollars or more. You own the ad account, pixel, audiences and creative. More on how the work runs: Facebook ads management.

12 — Questions
As much as you budget: a $20 daily budget spends about $608 a month, and Meta will not exceed 7 times your daily budget in any week. For a local business generating leads, the budget that lets one ad set reach about 50 leads a week runs from about $3,000 a month in real estate to $13,000 for dentists, using LocaliQ's September 2026 averages.
You choose the daily budget, and Meta can spend up to 75% more on a good day while averaging it out over the week. A $50 daily budget can spend $87.50 on one day but no more than $350 from Sunday to Saturday.
It is enough to run an ad, not to let Meta learn. At $70 a week and the U.S. average of $27.39 per lead, you would get two or three leads a week, far from the roughly 50 results Meta says an ad set usually needs to leave the learning phase.
LocaliQ's 2026 benchmark, updated 23 September 2026, puts the average U.S. Facebook lead at $27.39 across industries, down from $27.66. It ranges from $13.74 in real estate to $61.56 for dentists.
Meta's daily budget is a weekly average, not a hard daily cap. On days with better opportunities it may spend up to 175% of your daily budget, and you can also be charged when spend hits your payment threshold, before the monthly bill date.
The daily budget and duration you choose, billed like any Meta ad. Boost from a computer: since February 2024 Apple may add a 30% service fee when you boost in the Facebook app on an iPhone or iPad.
There is no separate Instagram price list: Facebook and Instagram ads are bought in the same Meta Ads Manager auction, and one ad set can run on both. Compare cost per lead and per customer by placement in your own reports rather than assuming either one is cheaper.
